âThe Waltonsâ was created by Earl Hamner Jr. and was loosely based on his childhood in the Schuyler community of Nelson County. The show aired from 1972 to 1981, but the storyline also included six made-for-television movies and the 1963 movie âSpencerâs Mountain.â
