In the moments after the deadly bus crash at Westboro station in 2019, rookie OC Transpo driver Aissatou Diallo’s first concern was for her passengers.
She tried to help them as they screamed in agony and she radioed dispatch for help. She told police that she could hear people crying, recalling that there was blood everywhere. The upper deck, where three passengers died and others suffered horrific, life-altering wounds, was inaccessible. So she tried instead to off-load passengers on the main floor, while at the same time calling out for folks to call 911 and help others.

Walgreens has been administering the vaccine to people 65 and older for days Author: Alex Fees (KSDK) Updated: 5:52 PM CST January 24, 2021
FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. Things are looking up in the Metro East. COVID restrictions eased Friday for seven counties in Illinois Region IV due to a decline in the number of COVID patients and a decline in the positivity rate.
Meanwhile, COVID vaccine distribution plan 1B gets underway Monday.
Jim Herndon walked out of Walgreens in Fairview Heights Sunday, but he had not just received the vaccine. He won’t, though he does meet the minimum age requirement of 65.
He said his decision comes down to who needs the shot most.
My older son Chory visited last weekend. It was a maiden coast trip for his newly imported 1991 Honda Beat and a chance for socially distanced carry-out to celebrate the season. He brought Mackerel Jack Crudo, Steamer Clams and Rock Crab Chowder fresh from Nevor Shellfish Farm in Netarts. If you have a chance, plan a trip over the Three Capes Scenic Route for celebratory take-out with your near and dear ones. It s fare that makes a meal into an event. The crudo is among my top five favorite bites of a lifetime.
Whales are migrating this winter, as always, and can be viewed from shore most days if we know what to watch for. This year s winter whale watch week (traditionally the week between Christmas Day and New Year s Day along the Oregon Coast) will not include volunteer staff and the Whale Watching Center in Depoe Bay is closed, all do to Covid-19 precautions.
