Volunteers from numerous local organizations are preparing for the the inaugural Greater Elgin Sing-Along of Handel s Messiah. The free event will be held on Friday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. at Elgin Community College s Blizzard Theater.
Grab your friends, celebrate the holidays, and raise your voices at the premiere of the Greater Elgin Sing-Along Handel’s Messiah on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, at 7 p.m. at the Blizzard Theater at Elgin Community College. <br/><br/>This free, interactive community sing-along will raise awareness and funding for Food For Greater Elgin while showcasing the talent of Elgin-area musicians and vocalists, including the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Judson Civic Choir, the Judson University Choir, Midwest Opera Theater, the Larkin High School Concert Choir, and several local church choirs. <br/><br/>No experience is necessary to participate; chorus scores will be available at the door. Senior Rebecca Johnson of Mount Prospect was recognized as Judson University s 2020 Student Laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois in a special Facebook Live event Dec. 8.
Every fall, a meritorious senior from each of the four-year, degree-granting colleges and universities in Illinois is awarded the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award and becomes a Student Laureate.
Typically, this award is bestowed during a special ceremony in Springfield, Ill., that includes all the student laureates, their families and university leaders.
