Out of friendship and good-natured concern the priest with whom I reside is always encouraging me to take an annual vacation. Throughout the year, often months in advance, he’ll ask if I’ve yet made plans. He knows this is one area of my life when I wait until the last possible minute to do so. (I procrastinate on nothing else.) Sometimes I’ll travel to England and have to let him know well in advance. But if staying on the domestic front I usually don’t give him a definitive answer until the day before I depart. For that reason in recent years I’ve just traveled to the Berkshires.
