Judith Love Cohen did most of her work as an engineer on NASA projects. However, she also spent time as a ballet dancer at the New York Metropolitan Ballet Company.
Cohen wrote and published books to encourage girls to enter STEM fields and was a lifelong advocate for women s rights in the workplace.
At age 19, while studying engineering at Brooklyn College, she was also a dancer. She even got a scholarship in college for her excellence. There was no doubt of Cohen s talent in diverse fields.

In the years that followed, Cohen earned bachelor s and master s degrees in electrical engineering and welcomed three children – Neil, Howard, and Rachel – with her husband, fellow engineer Neil Siegel.
She later welcomed her fourth child, actor and musician Jack Black, with her second husband, Tom Black.

Throughout her career, Cohen worked across various aero engineering projects, including the Abort Guidance System, which helped save the lives of the astronauts that were on board Apollo 13 when the spacecraft suffered a disastrous mid-mission systems failure in 1970.
In a 2016 obituary for his mother, Jack Black s half brother, Neil Siegel, shared that Cohen s work on Apollo 13 was his greatest accomplishment.
