ALBANY â New Yorkâs 29 electors gathered as the stateâs 59th Electoral College in the Assembly chamber of the state Capitol on Monday afternoon to cast votes to solidify Democrat Joe Bidenâs election as 46th president of the United States.
At noon Monday, 538 Americans convened in state capitols across the country and cast the most consequential votes of the 2020 election. The electors, or members of the Electoral College, took one of the final, formal steps in making Biden, of Delaware, president and U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., vice president of the United States.
New Yorkâs 29 electors gathered in the 6,100-square-foot Assembly chamber to cast their paper ballot votes in two boxes at the front of the chamber Monday, and include Gov. Andrew Cuomo, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, state Attorney General Letitia James and state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.

Each state s Electoral College delegation will meet Monday to formally elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris the nation s next president and vice president, fulfilling a constitutional duty even as incumbent Donald Trump continues his long-shot bid to overturn the election in court.
The meetings come as COVID-19 infections continue to rise at a rapid rate across the state and country, leading New York at one point to explore whether it could allow its 29 electors to vote remotely for safety s sake.
