Justice William Ouko when he appeared before the Judicial Service Commission for vetting for the position of Supreme Court judge.[Collins Kweyu, Standard]
Ouko who is currently the president of the Appeals Court will now replace Justice Jackton Ojwang who retired in February 2020.
In a gazette notice dated May 13, 2021, the president said Ouko’s appointment takes effect from May 11, 2021.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 166 (1) (b) of the Constitution, I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Ouko William Okello to be a Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya. Dated the 11th May, 2021,” read the gazette notice.

Lady Justice Martha Koome has responded to Law Society of Kenya chairperson Nelson Havi who made several claims against Koome in a letter submitted to the Judicial Service Commission on March 29, 2021, before the Chief Justice interview process started.
Through her lawyers, P.M Kamaara and Associates, Koome stated that she had read the contents submitted with astonishment and surprise, claiming that Havi was out to tarnish her name. As you are aware our client is an eminent Judge of Appeal who has given 32 years of her professional life to public service. She has served diligently.

The Judicial Service Commission on Tuesday, April 27, nominated Lady Justice Martha Koome to be the Chief Justice after an extensive two weeks of interviews.
Following the nomination of the Chief Justice, President Uhuru Kenyatta will forward the name to the National Assembly for vetting before being sworn in State House. The JSC has unanimously recommended the appointment of Hon Lady Justice Koome Martha Karabu, judge of the Court of Appeal as the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya, JSC vice chair Olive Mugenda stated.

You have said that you have avoided being a conspicuous consumption person. Please explain what you meant because looking at your wealth declaration, I saw very high-end cars listed, isn t that conspicuous consumption? JSC Chair Olive Mugenda asked.
