Brandon Broussard was with his girlfriend, Lashea Dugas, and her family playing cards the night he died.
When Dugas lost her money, she went back to the home the two shared in Carencro with five of the children, 15th Judicial District Attorney Roya Boustany told jurors Thursday.
Broussard came home later after picking up ice cream for the 4-year-old child who was in the truck with him. He called Dugas, told her he was home and to open the door. But when he pulled up at the couple’s home at about 10:50 p.m. on Oct. 13, 2018, he was shot, Boustany said.
