Cricket South Africa s (CSA) interim board after verbally attacking a journalist.
The news was confirmed by the department of sport on Wednesday.
On Monday,
TimesLIVE journalist Tiisetso Malepa published a recording of a telephonic conversation he had with Yacoob where he asked the retired Judge questions around the suspension of former acting CSA CEO Kugandrie Govender.
Yacoob can be heard to be frustrated and dismissive throughout the conversation and he calls Malepa idiotic numerous times as well as calling him dishonest , irresponsible and a rogue .
After the recording was made public, Yacoob through a CSA statement on Tuesday apologised, with the statement acknowledging that the tone of his comments was inappropriate .
While the Proteas were toiling on the field in Pakistan on Wednesday, the Cricket South Africa (CSA) interim board, and particularly chairman Zak Yacoob, was in a crisis meeting with Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa.
Yacoob launched a stunning verbal attack on a member of the media last week, which was recorded and published on
TimesLive. It revealed, in stark detail, the learned judge’s short temper and bullying tactics. It made his position untenable.
As a result, Yacoob has resigned and admitted in a statement that his behaviour and comments were “inappropriate”. Fellow interim board member Dr Stavros Nicolaou will lead the board until the end of its tenure on 15 February.

JOHANNESBURG - Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa has extended the term for Cricket South Africa (CSA) s interim board to 15 February.
Mthethwa had given the board three months to complete their mandate, with that deadline lapsing at the end of this month.
CSA has been in turmoil for the last 18 months, with the interim board and the Members Council initially butting heads on issues, including the implementation of the Nicholson Report.
The
Proteas have settled on a meaningful gesture to take a collective stand against racism and discrimination during their upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
That was the message from head coach Mark Boucher on Thursday ahead of the Boxing Day Test at Centurion.
Boucher was responding to questions on concerns that were raised recently by the current interim board, chaired by Judge Zak Yacoob, surrounding the Proteas stance on the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement in their T20 series against England.
The Proteas, in a decision understood to have been taken by the entire squad, opted against taking a knee in support of BLM at the start of that series.
