A man was sentenced to 19 years in prison after fleeing the scene of a fatal crash that killed a 77-year-old Marion County woman and injured four others in 2018.
Luis Herrera-Alvarez, 43, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter, four counts of third-degree assault, DUI, five counts of felony hit-and-run, reckless driving and giving false information to a police officer. He was sentenced April 30 before Marion County Circuit Court Judge Cheryl Pellegrini. His license was permanently revoked.
According to police, his blood-alcohol content was 0.17% at the time of the crash more than twice the legal limit.
In the state s sentencing memorandum, Marion County Deputy District Attorney Keir Boettcher wrote Herrera-Alvarez has an extensive history of driving while intoxicated and had previously undergone and completed treatment.
