Killeen woman sentenced after drunken accident last year

A Killeen woman was sentenced earlier this week after a drunken driving accident last year resulted in a woman being injured as well as property damage. China Marie Prichett, 29, had pleaded guilty on Dec. 22, 2020, to a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. During a remote hearing on Monday, Judge Paul LePak followed a plea agreement in the case and sentenced Prichett to a term of five years of deferred adjudication probation. She will have to participate in a violence intervention program every year. “I’ve learned from my mistakes and I’m trying to become a better person,” Prichett said to the judge during the hearing.

A Killeen man who said he did not remember robbing a Walmart in the city last year was sentenced this week to a term of deferred adjudication probation. On Jan. 21, James Aaron Cabrera Jr., 22, entered a plea of no contest to the second-degree felony charge of robbery. During a remote hearing on Monday in the 264th Judicial District Court, Judge Paul LePak followed a plea agreement in the case and sentenced Cabrera to four years of deferred adjudication probation. Cabrera is to have no contact with the victim or her family or to go to that store. He also has to write a letter of apology and attend more than one victim impact panel.

Ex-soldier pleads guilty to burglary and beating in Killeen

A Fort Hood man pleaded guilty this week to breaking into a Killeen home in 2019 and beating the man who lived there. Broderick Calvin Travick, 22, will be sentenced on April 16 on a second-degree felony charge of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit assault. The ex-soldier was indicted on May 27, 2020. Travick was being held in the Bell County Jail on Thursday in lieu of bonds totaling $45,000, on the felony charge and a Class A misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily injury. He was booked into jail on Jan. 2, 2020, according to jail records. During the plea hearing Thursday, Judge Paul LePak, who presides over the 264th Judicial District Court, authorized a personal recognizance bond interview for Travick after Travick said he would be living with family in Killeen while awaiting sentencing.

Killeen man sentenced to decade behind bars for armed robbery of elderly couple

A Bell County judge sentenced a Killeen man to a decade behind bars for an armed robbery of an elderly couple earlier this year. During a remote hearing on Thursday, Judge Paul LePak heard testimony from the defendant, Jason Lomas, 18, and his mother, as well as attorneys’ arguments, before sentencing Lomas to ten years in prison with credit for time served. LePak, who presides over the 264th Judicial District Court, also considered a victim’s impact statement. Lomas entered a guilty plea on Oct. 29 and no plea bargain had been reached in the case. Lomas was being held in the Bell County Jail in lieu of bonds of $102,500 on the aggravated robbery charge, a first-degree felony, and a Class A misdemeanor charge of evading arrest or detention. He was booked on March 4.
