Judge Robin Ransom becomes first Black woman appointed to Missouri Supreme Court Summer Ballentine
JEFFERSON CITY Republican Gov. Mike Parson on Monday appointed Missouri Eastern District Appeals Court Judge Robin Ransom to be the first Black woman to serve on the state Supreme Court.
Ransom will replace Judge Laura Denvir Stith, who was the second woman appointed to the high court. Stith retired in March.
Ransom marks a new first for the court as Missouri s only Black female Supreme Court judge. She’s the third Black judge, and she’ll join Chief Justice George Draper as the second Black judge currently serving on the high court.

Judge Robin Ransom will be the first Black woman to sit on the Missouri Supreme Court, Gov. Mike Parson announced Monday.
Parson selected Ransom, who has almost 20 years experience in judicial roles, over two other nominees made public Friday by the Appellate Judicial Commission.
Ransom, a judge of the Eastern District Court of Appeals since January 2019, appeared with Parson at a news conference as he announced the selection.
“I am confident that she will continue to be a fair enforcer of the law, faithfully interpret the law as written and reasonably consider decisions made at the trial and appellate level,” Parson said.

The St. Louis Post- Dispatch reported that for the first time, a Black woman will serve on the Missouri Supreme Court. Missouri’s Gov. Mike Parson selected Judge Robin Ransom, 54, to fill a vacancy on the Missouri Supreme Court on Monday. The post opened, when Judge Laura Denvir Stith retired. She served on the bench for 20 years.
“Of course it is not lost on me the historic nature of this appointment, to be the first African American woman appointed to the Missouri Supreme Court,” Ransom said, according to
