PHILADELPHIA – An action between a plaintiff local law firm looking to recover more than $229,000 in allegedly unpaid legal fees and costs that it incurred performing representation duties for a defendant New Jersey couple in a federal bankruptcy action has been stayed.
A New Jersey bankruptcy judge said Wednesday he would delay the confirmation of a Roman Catholic diocese's Chapter 11 plan at the behest of insurers blindsided by the debtor's abandonment of a deal that would have capped their payouts for clergy sex abuse survivors at $30 million.
The New Jersey diocese and 300 survivors of clergy sexual abuse agreed to one of the largest such settlements in the country. The diocese filed for bankruptcy last year.
CAMDEN, N.J. (CNS) The Diocese of Camden and the committee representing about 300 survivors of clergy sexual abuse have reached a settlement of $87.5 million, one of the largest such settlements in the country.
