Michigan Supreme Court didn’t mean for viral judge to shut down YouTube stream

ST JOSEPH COUNTY, MI – The YouTube live stream of a St. Joseph County District Court judge may still come back online, after a misunderstanding between the judge and the Michigan State Court Administrator’s Office.
District Judge Jeffrey Middleton first drew national attention in March, when an attorney noticed a man accused of domestic violence was in the same room as his victim, despite a restraining order. Middleton’s courtroom feed went viral again in May, when a defendant’s inappropriate username showed up on the video.

Michigan Man is at it again causing humorous chaos in a virtual traffic court. This time, a man appeared in Zoom virtual court with the username ‘Buttfucker 3000.’ He explained the title was an “inside joke” but the judge wasn’t amused.

As Jalopnik’s Senior Zoom Fail Correspondent, I feel it’s my solemn duty to report that yet another Michigan resident has let down his state via Zoom. In this case, Nathaniel Saxton appeared in virtual court in Michigan with the username “Buttfucker 3000.” The judge was so not impressed that, as Law & Crime reports, he almost got charged with contempt of court.
Well, that s awkward. When the histories of this cursed era are written, let s hope someone spares a thousand words or so for the utter weirdness of doing public business on Zoom. The online meeting/conferencing tool was virtually unknown before the pandemic, but found overnight success as we sought to conduct meetings, court hearings, psychotherapy and exercise classes safely and online. But the road to virtual life has not been smooth. A St. Joseph County man was the latest victim of Zoom, when, unbeknownst to him, he logged into a district court hearing in Centreville Tuesday with the screen name Buttfucker3000.

What s in a name? Apparently, a surefire way to get a western Michigan man in hot water with a judge.
During a defendant s virtual arraignment at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday in 3B District Court in Centreville, Judge Jeffrey Middleton asked him his name after reading the name tag for the Zoom account he used to log into the hearing: Buttf -3000. Good morning, sir. What s your name, Middleton asked It s Nathaniel Saxton, sir, the man replied.
Middleton asked: It s not Buttf -3000 . logging into my court with that as your screen name? What kind of idiot logs into court like that?
