A defense motion to have Judge Jeth Jones disqualified from handling the Santa Fe mass shooting case was granted Monday afternoon, according to court documents.
The 5-year-old case is being transferred due to a conflict of interest related to a previous professional association between Judge Jeth Jones and another attorney-turned-judge who met with Dimitrios Pagourtzis in the immediate aftermath of the deadly 2018 shooting spree.
“While we are disappointed to lose Judge Jones, we believe that Judge Cox will handle the case fairly and efficiently," DA Jack Roady said in a statement to FOX 26. “He is known for making decisive rulings that are fair to all parties."
