As Transphobes Rally, LAPD Attacks Trans Rights Activists

The previously obscure spa became the focus of national attention last month when Tucker Carlson uncritically presented as fact claims made by a Christian patron in a viral video that might have been a hoax. In the video, which Carlson took from an Instagram feed run by pro-Trump activist Jesse Holguin, the Christian woman claimed, without evidence, that she had just been traumatized by seeing a trans woman’s genitals in the spa. While complaining to the spa’s staff about the trans woman’s nudity, the woman who made the video also insisted that “there ain’t no such thing as transgender.”

By City News Service May 12, 2021 LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Los Angeles Police Commission today directed the LAPD to further develop an implementation plan this time with input from academics and members of the public on recommendations in three reports that found the department mishandled its response to last year s protests against racism and police brutality. I want to make sure that we re being as clear as we can that we re not referring to opening an email address so that there can be additional comments coming in, in writing. Judge grants preliminary injunction on LAPD projectiles

Print A federal judge on Monday extended recent court restrictions on the Los Angeles Police Department’s use of hard-foam projectiles at protests, granting a preliminary injunction on the weapons that had been requested by protest groups suing the city. U.S. District Judge Consuelo B. Marshall issued her ruling after finding that Black Lives Matter Los Angeles and other activists had successfully shown that they faced “irreparable harm” at future protests if the court did not intervene to restrict the weapons. Her ruling largely keeps in place measures reining in the LAPD’s use of the weapons at street demonstrations that had previously been issued under a more temporary restraining order, which Marshall granted last month.

Judge Restricts LAPD Use of Projectile Launchers Against Protesters

By City News Service May 11, 2021 LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A federal judge today issued an order restricting the Los Angeles Police Department s use of ``less lethal 40-millimeter and 37-millimeter projectile launchers against crowds at demonstrations. In her order granting Black Lives Matter-Los Angeles s request for a preliminary injunction, U.S. District Judge Consuelo B. Marshall noted an increase in reports of LAPD officers pushing, striking and firing less-lethal weapons on crowds of protesters, including media covering demonstrations, without a dispersal order being given. In her ruling, the judge ordered that: the LAPD is restricted from using 40mm and 37mm projectile launchers in public demonstrations except by officers who successfully completed training and meet all annual qualification requirements on the weapons
