A University of Tampa professor, who is a wanted fugitive from Georgia and behind bars in Hillsborough County, doesn’t want to be extradited to face child sex crimes in that state.
The retired Tampa Police Department sex crimes investigator who faces 100 charges of possessing child pornography was granted $500,000 bond and must wear an ankle monitor if released.
Jorge Britton wants to be released on bond, despite allegedly causing a deadly crash after leaving a gentlemen's club in December. Prosecutors say Britton also has multiple convictions for unlawful racing and DUI, plus he is tied to money laundering for drug traffickers.

Bond denied for hospitalized suspect in deputy s death

TAMPA, Fla. - Investigators say Travis Garrett, the man accused of ramming his car into the cruiser of Hillsborough County Sheriff s Office MCpl. Brian LaVigne, was traveling at a speed of over 76 miles per hour at the time of the deadly impact.
LaVigne was killed and Garrett, who remains at the hospital, was severely injured. Yet his criminal case moves on.
At a bond hearing Monday, Hillsborough County Judge Catherine Catlin was shown body camera video that captures the moments before the deadly crash that killed LaVigne.
Hillsborough County Sheriff s Deputy Eric Leshick said he saw it coming and tried to warn LaVigne seconds before.
