James Weinert gets judicial release Weinert Submitted photo EATON An Illinois man was granted judicial release on drugs and weapons charges in Preble County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Judge Stephen R. Bruns presided. James J. Weinert, 42, of Watseka, IL, was indicted in Sept. 2019 on charges of aggravated possession of drugs, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, and having weapons while under disability. According to court documents, Weinert’s prior history includes arrests for burglary, theft, escape, domestic battery and assault in Illinois. A sentencing memorandum filed by the Preble County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office called Weinert a “career criminal,” saying he’d been to prison in his home state no less than four times.
