On Saturday evening at UFC 258, Kamaru Usman overcame some early trouble to finish top-ranked contender Gilbert Burns and retain his welterweight title. It was a performance most regarded as stellar from the 170-pound champion, showcasing his ability to overcome adversity and his championship spirit. But for rival Colby Covington, all it showed was weakness.
“I think that looks like a guy really primed to get knocked out his next fight, and I want to be the one to deliver it,” Covington told
Submission Radio. “He looks a little chinny. Dilbert, he’s an oversized m dget, man, he’s a 155-er getting knocked out by 155-ers. The guy’s nothing, and that guy came out and dropped you and almost finished you in the first round? You got lucky to get out of that that he fell on his back and just sat there for five minutes and let you recover. Besides that, I didn’t see anything special. I see a guy that

Colby Covington is questioning Jorge Masvidal’s status as the UFC’s “BMF” champion amid the stalled negotiations for their potential matchup.
Covington and Masvidal, former friends turned mortal enemies, have been linked to a fight for months. As of yet, however, the matchup has failed to come to fruition.
The delay, Covington says, is all thanks to Masvidal which is not what you’d expect from a man deemed a “bad motherf cker.”
“I hope it’s happening,” Covington told Chael Sonnen in the latest edition of his podcast,
You’re Welcome (via MMA Junkie). “Last I heard from Dana and the UFC, they said they were going to make it happen. I’ve been on it since Day 1, since I fought Tyron Woodley and ended his career and left him out on a stretcher. I agreed to fight Masvidal in September.

A matchup seemingly tailor-made for box office success is still yet to materialize, and Colby Covington is putting the blame on his adversary.
For a while now, Covington has been tied to a grudge match with his former friend and training partner, Jorge Masvidal. But the two have yet to cross paths inside the octagon.
Covington and Masvidal competed in high-profile bouts in 2020, with Covington defeating another longtime rival, Tyron Woodley, and Masvidal falling short in his attempt to wrest the UFC welterweight championship from Kamar Usman.
Even though the time may seem right, Covington told Submission Radio that there has been no word regarding negotiations on fighting Masvidal.

Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal seems to be the logical next fight to make in the Welterweight division, however according Covington’s comments the fight isn’t close to being done and he blames Masvidal for it.
Speaking to Submission Radio Covington said “I’m good to go on my end, I’m ready to go. I gave them my verbal (agreement), and I’m a man of my word. I’m gonna show up and do what I do best, that’s win and fight hard, (and) put on a show for the fans around the world.”
“Getting Jorge ‘Street Judas’ Masvidal on board is a whole other story, the guy, I mean, he’s got no options, and he thinks he’s gonna fight Conor (McGregor), he wants the easy fight with the ‘soy boy’ Nate Diaz.” Covington stated. “The guy is desperate right now. You don’t want to fight the No. 1 guy in the world? I’m the No. 1 guy in the world.”
