Known for a petulant personality, early lost the Shenandoah Valley to Philip Sheridan in 1864, contributing to the overall confederate defeats. Seized control of the historical narrative to substantially redeem his reputation and position himself as chief authority on robert e. Lees army of Northern Virginia when lee died. Jubal earned866, accolades from northern and Southern Newspapers for his proficiency as a general and the cherry historian. By 1869, a former confederate general proclaimed early nearer to the hearts of the southern people than any other man. The story

I am not very bright but i am bright enough to know that, so dont worry about that. On august 23 1864, president lincoln held a cabinet meeting. For the previous weeks, he had been getting telegrams from republican politician say it, you cannot be real elected. Reelected. The people have had it with your administration. In you have to address certain things. This meeting, he did. He asked every member to sign a letter which lincoln had written. In that letter, he and his cabinet pledged their support to the next administration, who lincoln thought would not be him. Bud touched upon it, but if
In 1861. It started in these refugee camps. Im going to start with two stories. The first one might be familiar. The story of how the contraband decision got handed down. It happened Important Role virginia. Baker,ownsend, James Shepherd mallory get a boat where the union just arrived. There are confederates all around and these gentlemen had been building confederate fortifications for their master. They knew they were about to go to North Carolina and would be leaving their families and they decided to chance it. Next morning, a confederate soldier comes under flag of truce and says, please return the slaves. Were rebels really entitled . Werent they foreign country . You say you are a foreign country. Said, im confiscating these three men as contraband property of war. He even gave the confederate soldier a receipt. This spreads incredibly quickly. It is an in between status. Property likee of smuggled goods but you are a person. But whatever the ambiguities of contraband, it defini
