LUBBOCK, Texas (NEWS RELEASE) - A Lubbock man who twice escaped from law enforcement custody has been sentenced to more than 35 years in federal prison for gun and drug crimes, announced Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Prerak Shah.

A Lubbock man has been sentenced to over 35 years in prison after he was arrested in November of 2019, escaped the Bailey County Jail in August of 2020, and was then recaptured later that same day.
40-year-old Mark Anthony Lucio originally evaded Texas DPS troopers on August 25th, 2019 after they attempted to make a traffic stop. Lucio and the passenger led troopers on a high-speed chase before ditching the car and fleeing on foot. He was arrested after he jumped a fence into a nearby backyard.

A U.S. District Judge on Thursday sentenced to 35 years in prison a 39-year-old Plainview man who admitted to a brazen escape from the Bailey County Jail where he was being held while awaiting his sentencing for a separate federal drug and weapons charge.
Mark Anthony Lucio, who is being held at the Terry County Jail, faced up to 35 years in prison in November after he pleaded guilty to a count of escape from federal custody, which carries up a prison term of up to five years in prison.
Lucio entered his plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Gordon Bryant.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - After pleading guilty on Nov. 4, 2020, Juan Anthony Cordero, 25, of Plainview has been sentenced to 14 months in federal custody for assisting a Bailey County inmateâs escape.
He was also sentenced to three years of supervised release.
Mark Lucio was in federal custody for pleading guilty to drug possession and distribution in June 2020. On Aug. 29, US Marshals were notified by Bailey County Sheriffs that Lucio had escaped.
The day before his escape, Cordero was seen on a video call with Lucio discussing details of the plan, including the time and vehicle Cordero would be driving.
