Ryan Noda had an RBI single in the 10th inning as the MLB-worst Oakland Athletics edged the Detroit Tigers 1-0 Tuesday night after being no-hit into the seventh inning. Jace Peterson bunted pinch-runner Tyler Wade to third to start the 10th. Tyler Horton (0-1) struck out Shea Langeliers for the second out before Noda slapped a single to left — one of just two hits for Oakland in the game — to break the scoreless struggle.
Jake Burger hit his 18th home run and the Chicago White Sox beat the Oakland Athletics 8-7 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep. Zach Remillard added a two-run single and Eloy Jiménez had a pair of RBI singles as the White Sox finished their seven-game road trip 3-4. "We needed that one today," Burger said.
Since arriving in the big leagues six years ago, Domingo Germán has been anything but perfect. The New York Yankees right-hander pitched the 24th perfect game in major league history Wednesday night, retiring every Oakland batter in an 11-0 victory over the Athletics. It was the first perfect game since Seattle Mariners ace Félix Hernández threw one against the Tampa Bay Rays on Aug. 15, 2012.
Paul Blackburn pitched into the sixth inning for Oakland, allowing one run on Josh Donaldson’s homer in his return to the lineup and sending the Athletics to a 2-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. The slumping Donaldson connected in the fifth in his first action since Friday, but that was it for New York. Seth Brown homered for the second consecutive day as the last-place A’s beat the Yankees for the first time this season after they were swept in a three-game series in the Bronx in May.
The Guardians’ consensus top prospect, right-hander Gavin Williams, made his much-awaited major league debut Wednesday. Rookie catcher Bo Naylor singled for his first big-league hit, then scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning on a throwing error in Cleveland's 7-6 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night. Naylor snapped an 0-for-19 drought with a sharp single off Austin Pruitt (1-5) and came home on Steven Kwan’s one-out double.
