Following the UK s initial announcement on easing international travel restrictions, several British and international travel and tourism leaders commented on the launch of U.K.’s “traffic light system” for international travel.
The UK Government on Friday announced which countries are listed as green, amber, and red, with green locations requiring no quarantine on return home to the UK, with a test required on or before two days upon return.
This will no doubt make green sanctioned countries more popular as amber destinations still require 10 up to days self isolation at home, while red destinations still require 10 days of isolation in a Government approved hotel at a considerable cost of £1,750.

Holidaymakers from England will be able to travel to Portugal and Israel from later this month under new guidelines issued by the government.
Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Brunei, Iceland and St Helena are also on the ‘green’ list revealed today by transport secretary, Grant Shapps.
Gibraltar, the Falkland Islands and the Faroe Islands, as well as South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, complete the list.
Shapps said: “Today marks the first step in our cautious return to international travel, with measures designed above all else to protect public health and ensure we don’t throw away the hard-fought gains we’ve all strived to earn this year.

At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. At a time where accurate information about Covid-19 was vital to our community, this was the right decision – even though it meant a drop in our income. In order to help safeguard the future of our journalism, the time has now come to reinstate our paywall.
However,
To access all other news will require a subscription, as it did pre-pandemic.
The good news is that for the whole of December we will be running a special discounted offer to get 3 months access for the price of one month. Thank you for supporting us during this incredibly challenging time.

The UK tourism industry had broadly welcomed the Budget delivered today by chancellor Rishi Sunak – but there were also calls for more tailored support for high street travel agents.
At the centre of the plan for the coming year was a pledge to extend the furlough scheme until the end of September.
Sunak said the scheme - which pays 80 per cent of employees’ wages for the hours they cannot work in the pandemic - would help millions through “the challenging months ahead”.
The chancellor also confirmed the lower VAT rate for hospitality firms would be maintained at five per cent until September, while some £5 billion was to be made available in restart grants for shops and other businesses in England forced to close.
