St. Paul s (Md.) Wins IAAM-A Title, Moves to No. 4 in Nike / USA Lacrosse HS Girls National Top 25

Top-seeded St. Paul’s scored 10 of the game’s final 11 goals to pull away for a 17-8 win over second-seeded McDonogh in the IAAM-A Conference championship game on Saturday, giving the Gators their first title since 2006.
Caitlin McElwee led with four goals and one assist, and Kendall Steer, Christina Gagnon and Josie Hahn all had three goals apiece. Steer, Gagnon and Natalie Shurtleff contributed two assists apiece. Leah Warehime made nine saves, including some huge early saves on a pair of free-position shots.

Georgetown Visitation edged Bishop Ireton (Va.) 10-9 in overtime Wednesday on Molly McGuckin’s third goal of the game, and the Cubs are now No. 1.
McGuckin also had six draw controls and keyed the Cubs’ second-half possession. Sally Zinsner scored two goals, and Allie Boyce, Molly Finlay, Ella O, Megan Meyers and Madison Rassas all had one goal apiece.
The defense held Ireton scoreless over the final four minutes. Their next game isn’t scheduled until May 17 against Paul VI (Va.).

Maddigan Leifer tallied seven goals, eight assists, 10 draw controls, seven ground balls and six caused turnovers in the first three games of her season last week.
The US Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West outlined in our high school coverage.
Players of the Week from the Northeast will be announced once play begins in the region.
