Isle of Harris distillery bringing island life to the world with virtual ceilidh

When the Isle of Harris Distillery launched their “mainland” ceilidh at The Ubiquitous Chip in Glasgow last year, organisers could not have foreseen that it would be one of the last major events before lockdown.  While life has changed drastically as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is not deterring those at the Isle of Harris Distillery from giving a taste of island life, even if it requires a virtual audience.  The team has worked together to host a virtual ceilidh this weekend in a bid to lift spirits, support local artists, and bring folk together, with over 200 registering an interest in the event.

Talented Lenzie musician has real sax appeal at Celtic connections Talented saxophonist Matt Carmichael (21) from Lenzie, has released his first single ahead of two performances at this year’s Celtic Connections festival. Monday, 18th January 2021, 4:17 pm Matt, who is currently in his final year at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, has chosen his composition Spey as the taster from his debut album, Where Will the River Flow, which comes out on March 12. The former member of the East Dunbartonshire Schools Jazz Orchestra financed the album partly from the prize money he received as the winner of the prestigious UK-wide Peter Whittingham Jazz Award, which encourages young musicians to develop their careers.
