Defender Louie Fenton was celebrating his 100th appearance for the Phoenix and his side made a bright start when Ben Waine - who was looking for his fourth goal in four games - hit the bar with a header from a Ulises Davila cross inside the first two minutes.
It was a tight affair in the first half with Phoenix skipper Davila having the best chance.
He should ve opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Waine put him through one-on-one with Adelaide goalkeeper Joe Gauci but he made a smart save to deny the goalie.
Adelaide made a hot start to the second half and should ve taken the lead when Tomi Juric missed an open goal from a dangerous cross two minutes into the second half.
