Interview - Russia-Africa Summit unique platform bringing together corporate directors and investors
3 HOURS AGO
As widely known, Russia plans to hold the second Russia-Africa summit in 2022, as a further step to make inroads into Africa - that comprises a diverse collection of countries, each with its own set of development setbacks and challenges. The political culture and investment climate are, in fact, diverse but are also important forces in determining the levels of the economy.
As it aims at raising its economic profile, Russia is strongly encouraging Russian business leaders to prioritize sustainable development-oriented projects as a practical step towards raising the living standard of millions of impoverished population in Africa.

In light of the importance of addressing the digital divide in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Sustainable Development Goals, the President of the General Assembly has convened a one-day High-level Thematic Debate on Digital Cooperation and Connectivity on 27 April 2021.
In this letter, we call on governments, industry, multilateral institutions, civil society, and international financial institutions to close the digital divide by putting people at the centre of our approach to achieving meaningful connectivity for everyone.
In order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, we need to accelerate concerted action at all levels to close the digital divide, especially the gender digital gap. The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the deep disparities in access to affordable and meaningful connectivity.
Human-centered connectivity at the United Nations
H.E. Mr. Volkan Bozkir, President of the UN General Assembly, organized the UN’s first-ever High-Level Thematic Debate on Connectivity and Digital Cooperation. My topline conclusions from yesterday’s event are:
The human costs of the digital divide must be addressed as we build back from the pandemic, and
Stakeholders from governments, private sector, international organizations and civil society need to work together to end the digital divide by 2030.
More than 70 nations spoke out on the theme Whole-of-Society Approaches to End the Digital Divide. Connecting people with the internet has new urgency and commitment around the world.
