Double standard: Police response to US Capitol rioters draws cries of hypocrisy

As thousands of pro-Trump rioters on Wednesday stormed the US Capitol with law enforcement agencies failing to prevent it, many on social media platforms noted the contrast between police response to the mob at the Capitol versus their treatment of racial justice protesters.

Capitol was besieged mob because police ignored right-wing extremism

Right-wing extremists in the US have traditionally had a contentious relationship with law enforcement, culminating in the 1990s after Ruby Ridge and Waco. But this started to change during the Trump years. In 2018 I documented the ongoing efforts of extremist groups like the Proud Boys to curry favor with law enforcement. In 2017, Homeland Security officers in Portland allowed a member of the III% militia to assist in arresting a left-wing demonstrator.  This video shows a Portland Police officer walking up to a crowd of Proud Boys and members of the far-right group Patriot Prayer and informing them that his sergeant, …has probable cause to arrest a couple of the guys here. They ve arrested the other side, so it s not singling you guys out. But it s time to go. You guys can go home now, there won t be any arrests.

Here s Warnock s victory speech from last night: LIVE: Reverend Warnock Addresses Supporters on Election Night https://t.co/3AjHzC35qy Okay, so the Senate is 50-50 now: With a Kamala Harris as Vice President tie-breaker, the Democrats are now in control of the Senate for the first time since 2007. Whew, talk about Democrats winning by the skin of their teeth. With the presidency, the House, and the Senate under Democratic control for the first time in 10 years, it seems like anything could be possible right? All eyes are on the moderates: It s about to be Joe fucking Manchin s America. The second term West Virginian senator is the most conservative member of the Democratic party. He s against repealing the filibuster and doesn t like the idea of packing the courts. Republicans are hoping Manchin will switch parties.
