President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Major General Francis Adu Amanfo (rtd) as the New National Security Co-ordinator. The new appointment comes on the back of the recent demise of Mr Joshua Kyeremeh, who held the position of National Security Co-ordinator in President Akufo-Addo’s first term of office.
Major General Francis Adu Amanfo (rtd) is a well-known figure within Ghana’s intelligence community. He was appointed by Former President Kufour as Ghana’s Ambassador to Liberia.
Until his appointment as an ambassador, Major General Adu Amanfo was the Head of Defence Intelligence in the Ghana Armed Forces.
Edward Kwaku Asomani
The President has also appointed Edward Kwaku Asomani as the Deputy National Security Coordinator.
According to a circular signed by Chief Director at the Ministry of National Security, Lt Col. Ababio Serebour (Rtd), the appointment took effect from Monday, 8 February 2021.
Major Gen. Francis Adu Amanfo (Rtd) replaces Joshua Kyeremeh who died from COVID-19 last month.
He reportedly passed at the Ga East Hospital in Accra from kidney complications while receiving treatment for COVID-19.
Kyeremeh was one of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first appointees in 2017 during his first term.

President Akufo-Addo has appointed Major General Francis Adu Amanfo (rtd) as substantive National Security Coordinator.
Major Gen. Adu Amanfo replaces Joshua Kyeremeh who died a few weeks ago due to reported complications of Coronavirus.
The new National Security Coordinator was appointed by former President John Agyekum Kufuor as Ghana’s Ambassador to Liberia from February 2006 until March 2009.
Major General Adu Amanfo had his secondary school education at Prempeh College where he obtained his GCE Advanced level certificate.
In May 2005 he was appointed Head of Defence Intelligence in the Ghana Armed Forces.
The one week observance of the National Security boss Joshua Kyeremeh who passed on two weeks ago will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the Ghana Police Fitness and Training Centre in Accra.
It is strictly by invitation.
There will also be a family gathering at Asuotiano in Dormaa East in the Bono Region.
Mr Kyeremeh died on Monday January 18, 2021 at the Ga East Municipal Hospital, following a short illness.
Born in 1957, Joshua Kyeremeh was a Ghanaian politician and administrator.
He was a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and was one of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first appointees in 2017 during his first term.
