The Central regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling for the arrest of Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong for threatening and insulting former President John Dramani Mahama.
The lawmaker is seen in a video gone viral on social media attacking Mr. Mahama and accusing him of being behind recent market fires in the country.
In a statement on the development, the Central regional NDC said: “We urge the police, as a matter of urgency, to arrest Mr. Agyapong for his life-threatening and unfortunate comments which have the tendency to disturb the peace and cohesion of the country.

Central Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling for the immediate arrest of Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong over “life-threatening and unfortunate comments which have the tendency to disturb the peace and cohesion of the country.”
Hon. Kennedy Agyapong on Net2 TV, is reported to have threatened to burn houses of the former President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Rtd Col. Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, Capt (Rtd) Joshua Hamidu Akamba and Lawyer Baba Jamal.
According to the NDC, the life threatening statement has the tendency to heighten tension.

In reaction to the video, the Central regional NDC has issued a statement saying:
“We urge the police, as a matter of urgency, to arrest Mr. Agyapong for his life-threatening and unfortunate comments which have the tendency to disturb the peace and cohesion of the country.
“While Kennedy Agyapong has been known to survive on insults and anti-democratic conducts in the public space, a direct threat to cause harm to leading political figures in this country is one mile too far especially with his recent past in focus – where he threatened, on a live TV programme, the life of renowned journalist, Ahmed Suale, for which the latter was subsequently murdered in cold-blood.

Speaking on power FM, he defended his points by charging Ghanaians to watch how robbers operate before they take away valuables belongings to a victim. They use gun, threat of force or putting the victim in fear and this was exactly what happened under Jean Mensa and Nana Addo during the 7th, December 2020 poll that led to as much as 70 incidents of violence and the death of some 8 Ghanaians.
