The number of films available to Oscar voters in a screening room devoted to the Best Picture category hit the 200 mark on Wednesday, which means that $2.5 million has entered the Academy coffers from films paying $12,500 each to be represented in the screening room.

Every year, the /Film team gathers to do what all websites must: make a big list about the previous year in cinema. And while 2020 offered its fair share of numbing, painful roadblocks, the movies were as good as ever, even as we watched them at home instead of at a movie theater. So compiling a list of the
50 Greatest Movie Moments of 2020 was hard not because there weren’t any great moments, but because there were so many.

The Vast of Night – Andrew Patterson announced himself as a voice to be reckoned with on this ultra-low-budget sci-fi stunner that pulls off some incredible hurdles (1950’s setting, special effects, long one-er shots, children, animals, etc) with Spielberg-ian mastery. It’s also very rare that you see an indie with performances this confident, especially leads Sierra McCormick and Jake Horowitz.
