FAIRFIELD - As e-sports continue to grow, universities are finding new ways to tie the sport with academic courses.
Sacred Heart University professors Josh Shuart and Andrew Miller have had a competitive e-sports team for the last five years but launched a cross disciplinary academic minor this year that combines the college of business, sports management, and the arts and science department, which is a part of the communications program.
Introduced in the fall, the minor course would continue as a capstone course for the spring, which is an internship and practical experience course that would have a tournament to pull everything together. Shuart said, “So we conceived of an all Connecticut cup or championship which would showcase the teams.”
