LEWISTON With a playoff spot locked up, the Maine Nordiques used Saturday to tinker with the lineup and add Maine Nordiques Academy players and other call-ups in the regular-season finale against the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks.
The present and the future of the Nordiques played a part in a 3-2 overtime win at The Colisee in a North American Hockey League contest.
Cannon Green, a two-year forward playing in his final year of junior hockey, scored the game-winner with less than a minute remaining in overtime as he slid the puck past Danbury goalie Josh Seeley after receiving a pass from linemate Stefan Owens.
Stefan Owens loves playing against the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks.
The 20-year-old Maine Nordiques forward scored two goals during a 5-2 victory in a North American Hockey League East Division contest Saturday night.
Seven of Owens’ team-leading 20 goals this season have come against the Hat Tricks.
Associate head coach Matt Pinchevsly said the team doesn’t draw up plays for players who do well against a certain opponent, but they try to get that player or line more ice time.
“We trust (Owens’) decisions on the ice and he’s really supportive with his linemates, they do a great job working with him out there,” Pinchevsky said. “It’s essentially about momentum or the pace of the game. There might be a situation, pace or decisions or what his line generates (for offense) might serve a better purpose in which we might get them back out there.”

The Maine Nordiques showed some rust Friday night and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks in a NAHL East Division contest at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston.
The Nordiques were coming off a 10-day layoff since their last game.
Maine coach Nolan Howe said he expects a better performance Saturday against the Hat Tricks.
“It starts with poor line changes and goes to our special teams,” Howe said. “It’s a few games in a row now that we have given up a goal on our (penalty kill), that’s unacceptable. At the end of the day we have to be better from top-to-bottom. (Tonight) was a case of a group of young men having to learn a tough lesson and we certainly expect them to respond tomorrow.”
Maine 3 @ Maryland 2 – Thanks to another solid goaltending performance, this time by Tyriq Outen, the Maine Nordiques completed a mid-week sweep over the Black Bears thanks to a 3-2 win on Tuesday. Maine jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to 1
st period goals from Makem Demers and Isaiah Fox. The Black Bears responded with their first goal of the game in the 2
nd period with a short-handed tally from Luke Mountain. In the 3
rd period, the Nordiques regained their two-goal lead and defenseman James Philpott scored his 5
th goal of the season to make it 3-1. Jude Kurtas would add the other Maryland goal late in the period. Outen ended up making 36 saves in the win, while Michael Morelli made 33 saves in the loss.
