The warmer weather has saved the dept. 50,000 so far. That is the equivalent of 2 days of snow removal. They have spent just under 1000 on treating the roads. The warmer weather helps apply the treatment and does a better job of deicing when the first snow falls. They will plow if 1 inch of snow falls. The annual budget for snow removal is 3. 2 mil. Theis says that while this time helps it will probably get used sometime this year. She also said that she has seen this before and it doesnt mean it will be a warm rest of the winter. A des moines man is now facing time behind bars for a deadly crash he claims wasnt his fault. 24yearold troy mure says he was being chased with a gun on monday morning when he lost control of the wheel. Now his mother says theres proof. That troys telling the truth. That they was chasing him. He identified the car from the damages, the color, the make, everything about the car. This is all that was left of mures car when police got to the scene on 35th street, monday morning. A young mother of four was killed when the car crashed into a utility pole. Mure admits he was speeding. But says he was trying to get away from people trying to kill him. He told his mother thats because they believe hes responsible for an unsolved murder at evolution nightclub. He told officers it was a grey cadillac chasing him. Yesterday police found one with its front end smashed up. The people driving it. Have not been charged. Mure on the other hand is charged with vehicular homicide by reckles

The bodies of 36 year old bryon howard and 31 year old Heather Belieu were discovered in this home on Center Street monday afternoon. They were both shot to death. Police identified 39 year old Michael Wanchanic as a person of interest in the case. Wanchanic is believed to be the victims roommate. Hes been transferred to the polk county jail.
