A five-year local option tax aimed to fund, renovate and expand the Josephine County Animal Shelter and animal control services was opposed by Josephine County voters in this year’s primary election. Nearly 60% of ballots voted against the levy, which was projected to raise more than $24.5 million over the next half-decade with a 47-cent tax per $1,000 of assessed property value.
