Water quality
The Army Corps of Engineers Monday selected a new plan for Lake Okeechobee discharges that could reduce the risk of toxic algae blooms in the St. Lucie River. The amount of yearly average releases could be reduced from about 71 billion gallons to about 23½ billion gallons.
“Water quality is, by far, our largest issue,” McDonald said. “The only acceptable outcome, in the end, is that we end the discharges.”
