Daunting task lies ahead with Tiverton budget process

TIVERTON Town Administrator Christopher Cotta called the upcoming budget process “a daunting task” during a Town Charter-required joint meeting of the Budget Committee, Town Council and School Committee Thursday night to start a new budget season.
The virtual meeting was attended by all seven council members, five School Committee members and 10 of the 11 members of the Budget Committee, seven of whom were newly elected or appointed.
Superintendent Peter Sanchioni also attended and spoke early on, saying they plan to “go after a budget that will prevent us from laying off any more” staff, following a cut of 24.2 full time equivalent teachers at the end of the school year last year.
