Mexican tamales are among the local foods that rule the holidays, and rightly so. Tamales aren’t just delicious, they’re a festive way of sharing the joy of the season.
Houston is blessed with many fine tamale purveyors making a variety of styles and fillings; the flavors range from traditional red chile with pork or beef to barbecue brisket, to vegetarian to sweet dessert-like concoctions.

Cherry Block Craft Butcher & Kitchen are collaborating on a special menu Dec. 17 featuring smoked meat tacos.
Joseph Quellar of JQ’s and Jason Tedford, sous chef for Cherry Block, are teaming their taco and barbecue talents for the menu that can be ordered on Sunday, Dec. 13, on jqstexmexbbq.com for pickup or dine-in at Cherry Block at downtown’s Bravery Chef Hall, 409 Travis, on Dec. 17. A limited amount of menu items will be available for walk-in guests that day (don’t get shut out; pre-order).
