Police: Connecticut Man Put Police Dog in Headlock After Pursuit
Connecticut State Police Troop C reports that they ve arrested a 29-year-old Ashford man on numerous charges, including Criminal Attempt at Cruelty to Animals, after allegedly putting a State Police K9 in a headlock while trying to avoid capture.
The story starts at 7PM, Saturday evening, December 19, 2020, when Troopers from the CT State Police Troop C responded to a residence in Stafford, CT for a report of someone taking a motor vehicle without the owner s permission.
The complainant alleged that 29-year-old Joseph McCormack of Ashford had taken her Chrysler minivan without her permission, and had just returned with the vehicle. When Troopers arrived and tried to question McCormack, he fled on foot into the woods. STAFFORD, Connecticut A man was arrested on Saturday following a struggle with a K9 unit during which he put the dog in a headlock.
Police say they responded to an address on Orcuttville Road in Stafford around 7 PM after receiving a call from someone who said their car was taken without their permission.
The complaint told officers, 29-year-old Joseph McCormack took their 2006 minivan on Friday. The complaint added McCormack had just returned home with the car.
Officers arrived at the address and asked McCormack to speak with them, but he ran away. Trooper Kaelberer and K9 partner Drago responded and began to track McCormack. They were able to find the suspect who was said to have tried burying himself in the snow and brush in the woods.

STAFFORD A man was taken into custody through K-9 apprehension after he allegedly put the police dog into a headlock while fleeing from troopers over the weekend, according to police.
Connecticut State Police on Monday said troopers responded to Orcuttville Road in Stafford around 7 p.m. Saturday after a woman reported a man took her car without permission.
