Regina Chili for Children co-founder Stevenson dies

Her son Greg confirmed the news in a Facebook post, saying his mother was 93 years old at the time of her death.   In 1986 Stevenson and her husband Robert helped launch a thrice-weekly hot lunch program out of the Albert-Scott Community Centre in Regina s North Central. The goal was to give school-aged kids in the area a high-protein lunch and dessert on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.     “From my own experience, I knew people were out there starving,” she told the Leader-Post in 1988. “But I also read a study done by a University of Regina professor, and it was enough to make you cry. Our children deserve better. They need a good nourishing meal because, if they’re hungry, they can’t study well. They can’t learn.”
