Three Rivers gears up for 64th Annual Water Festival

A county landmark that has become unrecognizable will be removed

By Jef Rietsma A St. Joseph County landmark that has become unrecognizable will be removed in summer 2021. In addition to the demolition of what’s left of the former Parkville Mill, workers will address other man-made obstructions on Portage River that are scattered in the vicinity. Carolyn Grace, director of St. Joseph County Conservation District, said the project aims to return that stretch of Portage River to its natural state. The three-week process is expected to take place in August and will involve demolition and removal of the mill. In addition, remnants of a former dam will be taken from the river.
