Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College (FDLTCC), in partnership with the Northeast Minnesota Beekeepers Association, is hosting a virtual symposium called “Beekeeping and More!” on Saturday, February 13, 2021, for anyone interested in learning about beekeeping as a hobby or as a commercial enterprise. This year’s virtual symposium will run via Zoom. Pre-registration is required as the Zoom links to the day’s presentations will be emailed to registered participants.
The first Beekeeping and More! workshop held in 2016 drew more than 150 beekeepers and the event has kept growing, making it one of the largest beekeeping workshops in northern Minnesota. Session topics include equipment, general troubleshooting, beginning beekeeping, hive health, and bee behavior.

Sergeant Joseph Coffey, the legendary New York City detective who took on the mob and worked on some of the city’s most high-profile cases, including Son of Sam, died at home in Levittown, New York, in late September. He was 77.
Coffey decided on a career with the police at an early age when mobsters shot at his father after he resisted their attempt to influence the truck-driving union to which he belonged. “He vowed that he would catch these guys, lock them up, and that’s how he started,” his widow, Susan, told 1010 WINS, a New York City radio station.
