COVID-19 victims remembered in stunning Holy Week installation

The victims of COVID-19 have been remembered in a stunning Holy Week installation in Għajnsielem. Entitled The Cross, Jesus and You , the project is made up of 800 crosses constructed from recycled wood and displayed on Gozo church s parapet stairs. After sunset, they are lit in violet to represent Lent while the 394 victims of the virus are symbolised by crosses painted white. For the second year in a row, Easter will be celebrated in Malta under a semi-shutdown to contain the spread of the virus. The installation dedicated to the victims of COVID-19. Via Crucis at Ta' Passi

For the third consecutive year, the public is able to follow the Way of the Cross at Ta’ Passi fields, Għajnsielem, in a quiet and meditative atmosphere. The graphic design of the stations is by Alexander Lateo. On one side of each station there is a traditional meditation and on the other a modern representation of current problems, including solitude and bullying. The Way of the Cross was set up by the same team that organises Betlehem f’Għajnsielem under the guidance of Franco Ciangura and Joseph Ciantar. The Via Crucis is lit daily between 5 and 10pm.
