Prep bowl competitors face off | News, Sports, Jobs

LORDSTOWN Throughout March, prep bowl teams from Trumbull County schools will be competing on Saturdays to showcase their academic skills. With the coronavirus pandemic, modifications have been made to keep the players safe while they compete in the Trumbull County Prep Bowl Tournament in Lordstown High School’s auditorium. This past weekend, 14 elementary-age teams in fifth and sixth grades competed. Howland Middle School placed first, and Liberty Middle School placed second. Brice Harris, supervisor of curriculum and instruction at Trumbull County Educational Service Center, which sponsors the competitions, said high school teams will compete this Saturday and junior high teams, grades 7-8, on March 27.

Eastern Trumbull officials pursue senior center | News, Sports, Jobs

bcoupland@tribtoday.com BROOKFIELD Township officials in Brookfield, Hartford and Vienna are planning a senior center at the Brookfield fire department banquet hall and are seeking involvement from local school students to interact with senior citizens. Brookfield township trustees at a recent Zoom meeting spoke with superintendents from Brookfield, Joseph Badger and Mathews schools about how the schools and students will be able to interact in the future for multigenerational events and activities. Trustee Gary Lees said a senior center is being planned and will be open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays at the fire hall for seniors from Brookfield, Hartford and Vienna. Officials are seeking grant funding.
