Huge sigh. This is as meaningful as the “cut waste and fraud” declarations on the other side of the aisle. Find me an honest-to-god example of either, and I’m all for cutting it. Spending programs designed to help our state’s most needy are not wasteful. Provisions in our tax code designed to properly calculate a business’s net income aren’t loopholes.

CHICAGO Illinois cannot cut its way out of its fiscal challenges, according to state Sen. Andy Manar, D-Bunker Hill.
On Thursday, Manar joined other state lawmakers to discuss Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s plan announced this week to cut $700 million dollares from this year’s budget. Manar said cutting expenses would not solve “the challenges that we face today in Illinois.”
Duiring the ZOOM meeting, the Democratic lawmakers called on their colleagues and Pritzker to work together on closing billions of dollars in tax loopholes and giveaways to preserve essential services.
