LEHIGH VALLEY 8, SYRACUSE 4 (BOX) Friday night’s game between the Syracuse Mets and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs was a game the Mets would probably prefer to forget. The IronPig offense broke the game open in the top of the sixth, scoring seven runs in the inning to take a 7-0. Meanwhile, the IronPig pitching staff had a perfect game going into the bottom of the eighth inning, when Quinn Brodey singles off of Lehigh Valley reliever Bryan Mitchell. The IronPigs scored an insurance run in the top of the eighth on an RBI single off with a throwing error on the play off the bat of old friend Ruben Tejada. The Syracuse Mets scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth, on a Drew Jackson RBI single and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bruce Maxwell, and another pair in the bottom of the ninth, but ultimately lost to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 8-4.

WORCHESTER 2, SYRACUSE 1 / 10 INNINGS (BOX) Jordan Yamamoto got the start for Syracuse in Friday evening’s game, and pitched generally pretty well despite not getting very deep into the game. Yamamoto allowed one run, on a solo homer to Worchester’s Marcus Wilson in the bottom of the second, in 4.1 innings of work, with eight strikeouts and three walks. Syracuse trailed 1-0 until the top of the seventh, when Quinn Brodey homered to tie the game. The game remained tied at 1-1 through the ninth and into extra innings. Syracuse failed to score in the top of the tenth, and Stephen Nogosek entered the game to try to keep the game tied. With one out in the inning, Nogosek walked Danny Santana and Chris Herrmann intentionally to load the bases and potentially set up a double play situation. Nogosek managed to get the second out in the inning, but subsequently walked Marcus Wilson to force in the winning run. The Syracuse Mets lost to the Worchester Red Sox 2-1.

Instead, Daniel Zamora got the start, the second in his career and and first since 2018, when he was pitching with Binghamton. The left-hander unfortunately didn’t fare too well. Obviously, as a reliever, he would not pitch deep into the game, but Scranton/Wilkes-Barre touched him up over the two-plus innings he was on the mound, scoring six runs. Thomas Szapucki made his 2021 debut in relief of the southpaw in the third and allowed one of his inherited runners to score, but he got out of the inning without making things worse and then got into a groove, tossing three more scoreless innings. In the middle of the sixth, after S
