Tigers Overcome Seahawks to Close Out Regular Season

CLEMSON, S.C. The Tigers (10-13, 2-10 ACC) won a tightly contested 4-2 decision on Monday afternoon against UNC Wilmington (12-5, 1-0 CAA) to close out the regular season. After losing the doubles point against the Seahawks, Jorge Plans Gonzalez picked up some momentum for the Tigers, tying the match at one-all, with a 6-4, 6-1 win on Court 5.  Spencer Whitaker went on to win his match on court six, 6-4, 6-3 to give the Tigers a lead. Shortly after, No. 118 Teodor Giusca won on Court 4, 6-4, 6-3. The Seahawks made it 3-2 before Ryuhei Azuma sealed the victory for the Tigers with a 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 at line three. 

Tigers Down Boston College in ACC Finale

Box Score Weymouth, Mass. Clemson (9-13, 2-10 ACC) closed out the ACC regular season with a 6-1 road victory over Boston College (2-11, 0-11 ACC) on Friday afternoon. The Tigers improve to 20-1 all-time against the Eagles and extend their series winning streak to 14 matches. Clemson took control of the match early, earning the doubles point with Ryuhei Azuma and Spencer Whitaker taking Court 2, 6-1, and Carlos Kelaidis and Andrew Puscas winning line three, 6-4. In singles, Whitaker finished first for the Tigers, downing his opponent, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6. No. 118 Teodor Giusca followed closely behind at line four with a 6-3, 6-0 victory of his own. Liu Earns Ranked Win as Tigers Cruise Past No 43 Liberty

Clemson, S.C.  In the first meeting between the two programs since 2004, Clemson (8-13, 1-10 ACC) downed No. 43 Liberty (17-7, 6-0 ASUN), 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon, snapping a four match skid for the Tigers. It marks Clemson’s first ranked win since April 15, 2016 (No. 64 Duke) and its highest since March 11, 2016 (No. 38 Notre Dame). In the match, Yizhou Liu picked up his first career win over a ranked opponent and Robbie Weiss notched his first ranked win as Clemson’s head coach. After dropping the Court 3 doubles decision, 2-6, the Tigers secured the doubles point with 6-3 and 7-6 (7-3) victories at lines one and two, respectively. CLEMSON, S.C. The Tigers (7-13, 1-10 ACC) fell in a hard-fought 4-3 decision on Sunday afternoon to No. 42 Notre Dame (13-8, 6-4 ACC). After winning the doubles point, the Fighting Irish went on to win the first singles matchup, giving themselves an early 2-0 lead. The Tigers surged back as Spencer Whitaker picked up a victory at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4, and Teodor Giusca took line four, 6-4, 6-0, to tie the match at two-all. However, consecutive losses on Courts 1 and 4 clinched the Notre Dame victory. Jorge Plans Gonzalez finished shortly after the clinch, winning, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 5.

Azuma Picks Up Ranked Win as Louisville Outlasts Tigers

Clemson, S.C. Ryuhei Azuma improves to 2-0 over ranked opponents, defeating No. 56 Sergio Hernandez Ramierez for the highest ranked win of this season. However, Clemson (7-12, 1-9 ACC) dropped a 4-2 decision to Louisville (9-8, 3-5 ACC) on Friday night. Prior to the start of the match, lighting in the area caused the contest to be delayed. In doubles, Carlos Kelaidis and Jorge Plans Gonzalez won, 6-4, on Court 3. After a nearly simultaneous loss at line one, the doubles point came down to No. 2 where Yizhou Liu and Teodor Giusca were unable to handle the Cardinal comeback, losing 6-7 (4-7).
