Protesters gathered outside the Hidalgo County Sheriff s Office during the one-year anniversary of the death of Jorge Gonzalez Zuniga on Thursday morning.
Zuniga s family claims he died from injuries he suffered during his arrest on April 2020, joining advocates from La Union del Pueblo Entero to bring light to the tragedy they say nobody should forget. We promised my brother we would get him justice, Zuniga s sister Katia Gonzalez said. He asked for it before he passed away.

For seven years, Debbie Bush has fought to make those in power see the injustice she sees.
In 2014, her nephew was killed by an off-duty San Antonio police officer at the age of 23. Marquise Jones was shot in the back running from the scene of a fender bender in a restaurant drive-thru lane. The officer said Jones had a gun other witnesses say he didn t. The officer was cleared of wrongdoing and remains on the force.

Luther became a conservative darling this spring for her provocation, spending two days in custody on contempt of court charges. Largely in response to her case, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott eventually prohibited the authorities from jailing anyone for violating the stay-home orders established to stop the spread of COVID-19.
