Violence against Asians spikes in San Francisco, California
San Francisco, California has witnessed a surge in anti-Asian violence over the last year.
According to the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino, San Francisco saw the second largest increase in reports of anti-Asian hate crimes, following New York City. Assaults have more than doubled, increasing by 140 percent between the first quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021.

There have been several high-profile attacks just since March.
On Tuesday, two elderly Asian women were stabbed at a bus stop in downtown San Francisco. The women, aged 63 and 84, both remained hospitalized as of Wednesday but are expected to survive.

Two men were brutally attacked in separate incidents in San Francisco and police have arrested a man in connection with the aggravated assaults, police said Tuesday evening.
On Monday at 1:30 p.m., police responding to reports of a stabbing near the 16th and Mission BART station found a 64-year-old man suffering from a wound to his cheek. Eyewitnesses said a man cut the victim’s face with a knife, knocked him to ground and fled into the BART station, police said.
The victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) We re learning about yet another attack on an Asian American in San Francisco. The East Bay victim, who was on a lunch break at work in the Financial District, is speaking out, saying the violence needs to stop and he no longer feels safe going to San Francisco.
Late Tuesday, police confirmed they have arrested 32-year-old Jorge Davis Milton in connection with this attack and another case where someone was stabbed in the face in San Francisco s Mission District. Milton has no home address and faces multiple felony charges. Somebody pushed me from the back and started hitting me and I lose consciousness and when I wake up I m all bloodied up, says 59-year-old Danilo Yu Chang, whose eyes are bruised and swollen shut after being attacked. Anti-Asian sentiments rose amid the COVID-19 pandemic and a recent report from Stop AAPI Hate identified nearly 4,000 hate incidents in the past year. AAPI noted that it s likely to only be a fraction of the true number and California topped the list with 44 percent of the total incidents reported.
