One of us (I’ll give you a hint: the older one) was confirmed at St. Vibiana’s, the former Cathedral of Los Angeles. That venerable structure was erected in the 1890s and served as the center of the city’s Catholic community for over a century
The South Laguna Community Garden Park is once again accepting applications for new members. The Garden maintains 52 plots measuring six by eight feet, the perfect size for a family or friends to share.
Congratulations to Billy Fried! In his last Indy column (Culture Comes to Laguna, Dec. 8 edition), he invented “arts washing.” Just like “sports washing” is used to erase human rights abuses, it seems to me that Fried attempts to wash away the vitriol and obscenity-laced tirades of former council member Peter Blake and the attempted armed takeover of Hotel Laguna by Mohammed Honarkar. How? By Fried’s effusive praise for a show of Jorg Dubin’s art organized by Blake and sponsored by Honarkar.
Wait, did Hauser and Wirth or Larry Gagosian just set up shop here? Because it sure felt that way at last Friday’s marvelous Hospitality Night when, upon walking through a side door off a nondescript building on a nondescript section of Broadway, you were swept into an alternate universe - a cavernous, 4,200 square foot, state-of-the-art gallery space with the ultimate in sophisticated exhibition technology.
A sleek new museum-style exhibition space in the middle of town will debut next week when the public is invited to get a first look at the Honarkar Foundation for Arts & Culture space at 298 Broadway.
